Icelandic electronic group GusGus have released ‘If I Walk Away’, the first single from their forthcoming album ‘Rewind & Replay’, expected in spring 2027.
The track combines rave-inspired synthesizers, layered percussion, and vocals from Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir and Icelandic hip-hop artist Birnir. Its arrangement develops from atmospheric textures into a more rhythm-driven section featuring breakbeats and bass synthesizers.
Reflecting on the single, Biggi Veira explains, “If I Walk Away has a definite ‘90s rave feel. A time when music felt more exciting and less predictable. More weird, with fewer constraints. Escapism.”
The upcoming album arrives as GusGus approach the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough release, ‘Polydistortion’. The group’s history stretches back to an early 1990s short-film project involving Daníel Haraldsson and Biggi Veira, while Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir joined the project in 2020.
GusGus are also scheduled to perform at Austurbæjarbíó on November 6th, 2026, as part of an Iceland Airwaves partner event. Further information is available here.
