Subb-an has announced his debut album, ‘Lotus Rising’, scheduled for release on October 30th, 2026, through Phonica Special Editions Records. Five years in the making, the project explores the producer’s South Asian heritage through a combination of electronic production, live instrumentation, and introspective compositions.

Known primarily for his work in house and techno, Subb-an approaches the album from a different perspective, moving toward meditative and listening-focused music. The creative process emerged from a period of personal reflection and a growing interest in sound, traditional practices, and cultural identity.

Speaking about that period, Subb-an explains: “It was a real turning point where I began consuming sound differently, almost as a form of medicine to heal the body and shift brainwave states to facilitate meditation. I realised the power of certain frequencies, instruments and ancient practices, and how they can support healing in our bodies and minds. It was very powerful and really opened my mind.”

The album takes its name from the lotus flower, a symbol of growth and transformation. This imagery reflects the personal experiences behind the record, which Subb-an presents as an audio diary documenting a period of change.

Musically, ‘Lotus Rising’ incorporates acoustic instruments, vocals, and organic textures alongside electronic sound design. Indian classical sitar player Akash Parekar contributes to ‘Lucid’ and ‘Unearthed’, while vocalist and sound artist Kate Fleur Young appears on several compositions, including ‘Wilderness’ and ‘Stillness’.

Additional collaborators include vocalist Anushree Datar, who features on ‘Lotus’, bassist Luke Weaver, and Maribou State drummer Jonny Cade.

The album’s visual identity also reflects the themes behind the music. Alongside the lotus flower, the Bengal tiger represents instinct and inner strength, drawing on imagery that appeared during the producer’s personal practices.
